Jackfruit Nuggets

Ingredients

  • 20 oz canned jackfruit in brine

  • Frying oil

  • 1 ½ cup flour

  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp thyme

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Flour Dredge

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp Trader Joe’s Chickenless seasoning

  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1-2 cup(s) vegan milk alternative

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 ½ - 2 cups vegan milk

  • 1 ½ tsp apple cider vinegar

Jackfruit Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp Trader Joe’s chickenless seasoning

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 ½ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp thyme

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper

  • ¼ tsp cumin

  • Salt & pepper for taste

  • 1 tsp olive oil

Preparation

  1. Remove jackfruit from the can and rinse thoroughly. Place in a mixing bowl along with all of your Jackfruit Seasonings and oil. Set aside to marinade for 15-30 minutes.

  2. Prepare your flour dredge. Mix flour, dry seasonings, and non dairy milk together until you reach a batter consistency similar to funnel cake batter. Set to the side. If the batter is too thick add in more milk until it resembles funnel cake batter, but slightly thinner.

  3. Prepare frying oil. Takes about 10-15 minutes to heat up.

  4. In a separate bowl combine flour, paprika, arrowroot powder, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper from the ingredients section. This will be your dry seasonings.

  5. Start the battering process. One hand will be your dry hand and one hand will be your wet hand. With your wet hand place jackfruit in the wet batter until coated thoroughly.

  6. With your DRY hand take the jackfruit and coat with seasoned flour. Repeat again. Do this a total of two times.

  7. Drop in oil and fry for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. Serve with the dipping sauce of your linking and enjoy.

Tips

  • Adjust seasonings to your liking.

  • If you dislike the strong jackfruit taste, boil the jackfruit for 5-10 minutes to remove the “can” aroma. Pat dry and then start the battering process.

  • Pairs best with hot sauce and waffles.
